The stormwater drainage improvement project in the city of Ouagadougou (phase 3) financed to the tune of XOF10 billion, will include the construction of the outlet inside and downstream the Bangr Wéogo park, through: i) recalibration of the Kadiogo backwater inside the park, using dirt channel over a stretch of 2,749 m; ii) recalibration and insulation of stream sections adjacent to the park and downstream the An Nayélé drainage scupper, using reinforced concrete ditch, over a stretch of 4,963 m; iii) extended recalibration of the Kadiogo stream up to 500 m at its confluence with the Goudrin stream, using dirt channel, over a stretch of 1,500 m. Moreso, as part of the project, it is envisaged, among others, : i) to install public lighting alongside the Kadiogo stream inside the Bangr Wéogo park and around the insulated channel outside the park; ii) to build access roads and walkways alongside the canals and channels; iii) to bring awareness to the population (IEC campaigns) in solid waste management; and iv) to support the city of Ouagadougou in providing equipment (dredging machines and means of transport) and trainings.
The implementation of such project, consisting of various improvements, will contribute to improved access of the population to sustainable sanitation service by increasing the number of persons with access to such service. In addition, 6,858 indirect and induced jobs will be created in the area of waste management.
As regards the support programme to the development of local economies (PADEL), BOAD will provide Burkina Faso with XOF30 billion. As such, it is planned to: i) provide an integrated local development kit (KIT-DELI), which is a minimum investment package constituted based on the specifics of each region; ii) provide micro-credits to 15,000 very small and micro-enterprises; and iii) build technical and entrepreneurial capacities for micro-enterprises and producers’ organizations. By 2020, the programme will help: i) reduce inter- and intra-regional infrastructural gaps by providing modern power services and basic socio-economic facilities to the populations, communities and very small and micro-enterprises; ii) build buoyant, prosperous and inclusive local economies in Burkina Faso; and iii) contribute to job creation.
These two (2) operations, bringing the Bank’s overall commitments in the country to XOF564.8 billion, will contribute significantly to the attainment of the objectives set under the Burkina Faso’s national economic and social development plan (PNDES), which was put in place to ensure structural transformation of the Burkinabe economic and foster a strong, sustainable, resilient and inclusive growth, creating decent jobs for all and resulting in improved social well-being.
