EMPLOYMENT
EMPLOYMENT
Employment includes all persons of working age who, during a short period of time, such as a week or a day, belonged to the following categories: a) paid employment (whether working or employed but not working); or b) self-employment (whether at work or in a company but not at work). To promote international comparability, the working-age population is often defined as all people aged 15 and over, but this may vary from country to country depending on national laws and practices (some countries also use an upper age limit).
The number of full-time equivalent employees, according to local definition, working for the client company or investor project at the end of the reporting period. This includes people hired directly, and people hired by third-party agencies when these people provide field services linked to the client company’s operations. It is also the equivalent of full-time work performed by seasonal, contract and part-time employees. Part-time jobs are converted into full-time jobs on a pro rata basis using a local definition (for example, if the working week is equivalent to 40 hours, a 24-hour/week job would be equivalent to a 0.6 FTE job). Seasonal or short-term jobs are prorated on the basis of the time worked during the year (for example, a full-time position held for three months would be equivalent to 0.25 FTE).
