Lomé, December 08, 2022. Mr. Luis SOARES CASSAMA, Vice-President of the West African Development Bank (BOAD), and Dr. Abdoulaye MOHAMADOU, Executive Secretary of the Permanent Inter-State Committee for Drought Control in the Sahel (CILSS), have signed a memorandum of understanding formalizing the cooperation between the two institutions, in favor of sustainable development in the countries of the Sahel-Saharan zone and the WAEMU.
Under the terms of this agreement, BOAD and CILSS intend to strengthen their cooperation, while promoting the coordination and harmonization of their development actions in favor of their member states.
“CILSS, with its fifty years of technical and scientific know-how, aims through this cooperation agreement with BOAD to place its expertise and skills at the service of the sub-region, with a view to promoting the coordination and harmonization of interventions for the benefit of Sahelian and West African populations,” said Dr Abdoulaye Mohamadou, Executive Secretary of CILSS.
Mr Soares Cassama, Vice-President of BOAD, noted that ” the regional cooperation and collaboration between CILSS and BOAD, highlighted in this partnership, prefigure the transformation and emergence of the economies of the UEMOA zone “.
More specifically, cooperation between the two parties will focus on food and nutritional security, natural resource management and the fight against desertification, There is also provision for joint financing of development projects and programs, eligible for funding from BOAD and other CILSS donors. BOAD’s assistance to CILSS in its dealings with regional and international organizations, seeking funding for development projects and programs in member countries common to both organizations CILSS’s expertise in the framework of BOAD initiatives, for the preparation and implementation of national and regional development programs.
Under this agreement, particular attention will be paid to the Pan-African Agency for the Great Green Wall (APGMV) initiative.
