BOAD’s fiftieth anniversary: the commemoration of the institution’s creation, placed under the sign of reflection to think about the BOAD of the next fifty years

Lomé, August 29, 2023. The commemoration of BOAD’s fiftieth anniversary was a time for reflection and exchange, with the central theme of the event being: ” 2023-2073: financing development differently, the BOAD of the next fiftieth anniversary “. In line with this theme, and ahead of the official ceremonies to be held in November, six (06) thematic online workshops are being organized from August 23 to October 11, whose conclusions and recommendations will give rise to a forward-looking document. This compendium will be submitted to investors, BOAD staff, administrators, Ministers and High Authorities of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA).

The first workshop, held on August 23 and 24, 2023, focused on the theme “Financing infrastructure development for successful regional integration”.

The various sessions are open online, to the participation of the institution’s partners and resource persons, as well as to the general public interested in the subjects concerned. ” Financing supply and supporting universal access to sustainable energy “
. Before the climax on November 14, 4 other workshops will provide an opportunity for discussion and reflection on the following themes : ” Supporting food sovereignty and climate resilience, financing the processing of agricultural products ”  September 6 and 7, 2023 ; ” Innovative financing mechanisms for sustainable development “September 13 and 14, 2023 ; ” Strengthen synergy in financial services to better promote the development of MSMEs ” on September 20 and 21, 2023 and ” Financing human development,  financing affordable housing, health and Education on October 10 and 11, 2023 ” .

The Banque Ouest Africaine de Développement (BOAD) is the joint development finance institution of the countries of the West African Monetary Union (WAMU). Established in November 1973 as an international public institution, the BOAD’s purpose, according to Article 2 of its Articles of Association, is “to promote the balanced development of member states and to achieve the economic integration of West Africa” by financing priority development projects.
